{"id":5194,"date":"2017-06-14T09:38:49","date_gmt":"2017-06-14T13:38:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ombudsmandemontreal.com\/?page_id=5194"},"modified":"2017-06-14T09:38:49","modified_gmt":"2017-06-14T13:38:49","slug":"pedestrian-safety-near-a-subway-station-new-light-signalling-installed-2016","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ombudsmandemontreal.com\/en\/cases-handled\/examples-of-charter-files\/safety\/pedestrian-safety-near-a-subway-station-new-light-signalling-installed-2016","title":{"rendered":"Pedestrian safety near a subway station \u2013 New light signalling installed (2016)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Arrondissement <\/strong><strong>de C\u00f4te-des-Neiges\u2013Notre-Dame-de-Gr\u00e2ce and Service des infrastructures, de la voirie et des transports<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Charter file<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under the <em>Montr\u00e9al Charter of Rights and Responsibilities<\/em>, the City is committed to \u201c<em>developing its territory in a safe manner<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>A citizen fears for pedestrians\u2019 safety near the Snowdon subway station, and more specifically at the intersection of Queen-Mary and Westbury.<\/p>\n<p>Our on-site visit reveals that the north and south pedestrian crossings of this intersection are not protected by crosswalks, as is the case for the east and west crossings.<\/p>\n<p>According to <em>Ville de Montr\u00e9al<\/em>\u2019s standards, the proximity to a subway station would \u00a0justify the installation of pedestrian crosswalks at these locations as well. We intervene in this respect.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Service des infrastructures, de la voirie et des transports <\/em>installs pedestrian crosswalks at the North and West crossings of the intersection, as well as a prohibiting right-left turn arrow that forces drivers to proceed straight through.
