{"id":4597,"date":"2016-06-21T11:32:33","date_gmt":"2016-06-21T15:32:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ombudsmandemontreal.com\/?page_id=4597"},"modified":"2016-06-21T11:32:33","modified_gmt":"2016-06-21T15:32:33","slug":"service-de-securite-incendie-de-montreal-sim-delays-that-penalize-fire-victims-2015","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ombudsmandemontreal.com\/en\/cases-handled\/examples-of-cases-handled\/miscellaneous\/service-de-securite-incendie-de-montreal-sim-delays-that-penalize-fire-victims-2015","title":{"rendered":"Service de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 incendie de Montr\u00e9al (SIM) \u2013 Delays that penalize fire victims (2015)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When there is a fire, Insurance companies require that the insurees provide them with a report filled out by the Fire Department, before compensation is paid.\u00a0 At the SIM, this form is called the <em>Rapport g\u00e9n\u00e9ral d\u2019intervention <\/em>(RGI).<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>OdM<\/strong> heard that some citizens were unable to obtain their RGI within a reasonable time lapse, in order to be compensated.\u00a0 We had handled a similar problem a few years ago.\u00a0 We investigated once more.<\/p>\n<p>Our investigation confirmed that the delays before the SIM forwarded the RGI to citizens were often problematic and could penalize the victims. \u00a0The SIM acknowledged the problem. \u00a0It reminded its managers the importance of completing the RGI and insisted that they be sent to victims quickly.<\/p>\n<p>In the <strong>OdM<\/strong>\u2019s view, a three week maximum delay for the transmission of these reports would be reasonable.\u00a0 The SIM pledged to take all required steps towards such a result. \u00a0Our office will follow up in 2016.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When there is a fire, Insurance companies require that the insurees provide them with a report filled out by the Fire Department, before compensation is paid.\u00a0 At the SIM, this form is called the Rapport g\u00e9n\u00e9ral d\u2019intervention (RGI).
