{"id":314,"date":"2011-05-11T16:46:38","date_gmt":"2011-05-11T20:46:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ombudsmandemontreal.com\/?page_id=314"},"modified":"2022-02-08T15:40:33","modified_gmt":"2022-02-08T20:40:33","slug":"enabling-legislation","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ombudsmandemontreal.com\/en\/about-us\/enabling-legislation","title":{"rendered":"Enabling legislation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h2>Enabling Legislation<\/h2>\n<p>The jurisdiction and general powers of the <span class=\"caps-bold\">Ombudsman de Montr\u00e9al<\/span> are defined in the <a href=\"https:\/\/montreal.ca\/en\/reglements-municipaux\/recherche\/60d76861fd6531e8045798b2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">By-law concerning the Ombudsman<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Ombudsman also offers the <strong>only available recourse<\/strong> to ensure the respect of the <a href=\"https:\/\/montreal.ca\/en\/reglements-municipaux\/recherche\/60d76e79fd6531d61a57af57\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">By-law concerning the Montr\u00e9al Charter of Rights and Responsibilities and the Right of Initiative<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In December 2006, the government of Qu\u00e9bec modified the <a href=\"https:\/\/ombudsmandemontreal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Cities-and-Towns-Act-R.S.Q.-chapter-C-19-division-XI.1-2.docx\">Cities and Towns Act (R.S.Q., chapter C-19, division XI.1)<\/a>\u00a0so as to reaffirm the broad investigative powers of municipal Ombudsmans and protect the confidentiality of their files.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Enabling Legislation The jurisdiction and general powers of the Ombudsman de Montr\u00e9al are defined in the By-law concerning the Ombudsman.
